What is SaunaGus?
SaunaGus or Aufguss as it is called in German, means ‘Infusion’ and is a wellness ritual performed in the sauna, usually by an “Aufgussmeister” or “Sauna Master” (Danish: Gusmester).
The ritual involves pouring water mixed with essential oils onto the hot stones of the Finnish sauna stove, after which the Aufgussmeister directs the hot, scented steam towards the bathers using rhythmical movements of a towel, accompanied by music.
But what exactly is SaunaGus, you might ask? With SaunaGus you get a different sauna experience. SaunaGus typically constis of 3-4 rounds of sessions that last between 10-12 minutes during which time a sauna master will pour essential oils (mixed in water or on ice balls) over the sauna's hot stones and then wave a towel in the air to distribute the steaming hot steam in the room. Typically, an event will be have short breaks, where it is possible to cool down, chill and get some water and snacks.
It is different which essential oils for SaunaGus are used. Depending on the selected oils, SaunaGus can have a refreshing, calming or perhaps cleansing effect. The oils also come in several varieties and scents.
